We both celebrated birthdays, so when it came time to pick a restaurant for birthday dinner, we knew right away: our favorite in the West End, The Grapevine Greek & Italian on Three Chopt Road.
Order Mother Mary's Chicken
They specialize in both Italian and Greek, but my absolute favorite dish is Mother Mary's chicken. OMG, people! It's a simple but amazing pasta dish with tender chicken, mozzarella, feta, olive oil and garlic. Oh my, the garlic! My mouth is watering just writing about it. It's simply fabulous, and thanks to Mother Mary for making it.
For an extra treat, order the flaming cheese appetizer. Who doesn't love seeing a flaming plate come through the dining room while the staff shouts, "Opa!"
A True Family Restaurant
The Grapevine is family-run and has been for more than 30 years. It was opened by Chef Mike and his wife, Mary. Over the years their children have joined the business, and you'll often see their son Mitch greeting diners and helping out around the dining room.
