A Richmond-Area Favorite: Mama Cucina in Innsbrook
With our work, Heather and I are frequently out and about around Richmond during mealtimes. Most days, lunch is something quick between appointments. Every once in a while, though, we make time to try somewhere new.
That is how we discovered Mama Cucina in Innsbrook.
Our First Visit
I had driven past this small Italian restaurant at Cox and Broad for more than a decade without ever stopping. One afternoon, Heather and I finally decided to give it a try.
Heather ordered the chicken pesto sandwich and loved it. The bread was fresh, and the sandwich was delicious. I ordered the homemade ravioli with walnut cheese sauce. After one bite, I was hooked.
Lunch was so good that we made a pact to return for dinner—and it did not take us long.
Returning for Dinner
We arrived a little after 5:00 on a Wednesday evening, and the restaurant was already filling up. Mama Cucina is not a large restaurant, but the staff found us a table even though we had not made reservations.
Heather ordered the manicotti with walnut cheese sauce, and I decided to try the veal Bolognese. Service was quick and attentive, with salad and bread arriving while we waited for our entrées.
The Portions Are Generous
The first thing you should know is that the portions are enormous. Heather and I ate until we were full and still brought home enough food for several additional meals.
Heather loved her manicotti, and my veal Bolognese was excellent. Next time, I plan to try the saltimbocca. We had no room for dessert, so that will also have to wait for another visit.
