A Trusted Local Pro: S.B. Cox Stone Yard in Ashland, VA
Updated: Sep 28
Curt Reichstetter of Two Dog Realty shares a firsthand recommendation from Richmond, Virginia: S.B. Cox Stone Yard off Ashland Road for driveway gravel and crush-and-run.
In Curt's Words
Every spring, we play dodge-the-potholes coming down our driveway. It's a fun game — try not to destroy your alignment while going as fast as possible. Okay, just kidding.
If you've got a long gravel driveway, potholes are pretty much inevitable. Add delivery trucks flying up and down it, and the problem only gets worse. Ours kept getting bigger and bigger, and the last time we dealt with it, it cost real money to have a dump truck deliver gravel and a professional come spread it.
This time, Heather and I decided to handle it ourselves — and I'm glad we did.
Here's where our 10-year-old Toyota pickup came in. It's at the age where we're not too precious about wear and tear anymore, so we offer it up to clients and past clients whenever they need to haul something or just need a truck for a day. This time it was our turn to use it — big scoops of gravel to replace what our driveway kept losing to potholes.

With the help of Bentley at S.B. Cox Stone Yard off Ashland Road, I picked up a load of crush and run for just $18. Bentley used a front-end loader to fill the truck, and that one load took care of every pothole on our driveway — and then some.
I can't say enough good things about Bentley and the team at S.B. Cox. Great product, great service, and an unbeatable price. Two thumbs up from us.
Next up: I'll be heading back for truckloads of black mulch to refresh the flower beds — and come spring, that same truck is available if any of you want to haul your own.

A bonus for dog lovers: S.B. Cox sells concrete dog-paw stepping stones ($19.95 plus tax when we visited), and for every one sold, S.B. Cox Stone Yard contributes $5 to the Goochland Animal Shelter. At a company called Two Dog Realty, that got our attention.
